Visit Santa Eularia, Ibiza | Balearic Islands

Description

Santa Eulalia, the third largest town in Ibiza, is apparently the richest town in Spain (per capita). It’s 15 kilometres north of Ibiza town.

Here you’ll find the only river in the entire Balearics and this is why it has always been of great strategic importance to the island. Nowadays, the river is almost completely dried up and runs only half a kilometre, but the walk along the remaining section is beautiful.

Santa Eulalia remains pretty much the same all year round. It doesn’t get the mass population explosion that San Antonio does during peak season. This is perhaps because it has a much larger indigenous population. The locals like it the way it is and want to keep it that way.

There is an amazing church here. Possibly the most imposing you are ever likely to see. As you enter from Ibiza town direction you will see it on top of the hill. Apart from the fortress in Ibiza old town, it’s the best example of local Ibiza architecture. It dates back to the 16th Century.
The best time to see it is at night. It looks spectacular when floodlit against a dark or twilight sky. Also, the views out over the town from the church are beautiful - well worth checking out.

In Santa Eulalia you’ll find some of the best restaurants on the island. They even have a street called “Restaurant Street”. That just says it all. You’ll find the widest variety and the best quality food here.

The town has a very cosmopolitan feel to it. The consistent population size all throughout the year attracts a more long term, settled type of visitor.
